FTP (file transfer protocol)
Marketing staff may use FTP in two different contexts:
1. FTP programs are used to upload, or transfer HTML web pages and graphics to a web site when a site is created or modified. Such facilities are now incorporated into many web authoring programs such as Microsoft FrontPage, but it is also worthwhile knowing how to upload a file using a utility program such as WS_FTP.
2. FTP can also be provided as a means of communicating with customers since large volumes of information such as price lists, catalogues or support information can be made available from a web site as a file, perhaps in Microsoft Word format’ and then downloaded by customers, or agents as required.
